The History of Indigo Surf

POSTED BY: The Chillers POSTED ON: 01/30/08 13:43:25

Indigo Surf was originally a project by The Chillers that we started with songs that we wrote about the Jersey Shore.  We started writing songs that shared the same theme: going to the shore, hanging at the beach, going out on the boardwalk, hitting the shore bars.  Going to the shore during the summer is a ritual that we did while growing up.  From Sandy Hook to Cape May is 127 miles of shoreline on the Atlantic Ocean and it was a huge influence on us.

After a while we came up with over two dozen numbers for the project and then came up with a surf instrumental that fit and named it "Indigo Surf".  It became a break through number and  kind of a theme song for us.  The original version can be heard on our Raw Bar CD, Elemental Instrumental, NESMA Sampler Vol. 2 and a few other sites and recordings.  From the original project we just added two unreleased songs to this site to be heard for the first time.   Those two numbers are "Wildwood" and "The Ruins Of Asbury Park".

"Wildwood" is a build up number that gains momentum as it rolls along.  It is about cruising down the Garden State Parkway, going to the shore, meeting the girl and having a memorable time.

"The Ruins Of Asbury Park" is actually a run through of the song for the very first time.  We tried to record other versions bu the energy was never the same as this raw and raucus version.  It was written after visting the city for the first time in over twenty years.

In the future we hope to complete the Indigo Surf project among others while we record new material.  Keep On rocking. - The Chillers - 2008
