» Duke Buzzy
Image: jolly roger 1.jpg Born in Toronto, Duke didn't see it again for more than 20 years. He was raised in the small town of Fort Smith, NWT (across the Lake from Yellowknife in northern Canada). His formal education was supplimented with a diet of mostly rock and roll (chiefly Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Beatles and Bach) and comic books; he still counts Spider-man and the Hulk as his first role models.

Then when he was about 11 or 12 years old, Duke was introduced to hip hop in the form of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince; these he quickly abandoned for Public Enemy, NWA and Ice T, owing to their militant dedication to raw musical purity and social conviction. Often a target of derision himself, Duke quickly took to channeling his frustration into raps that blended (albeit awkwardly at first) a curious mix of anger and humor that was to become one of his hallmarks. Starting with two broken ghetto blasters and a $50 keyboard, he started making beats to support his lyrics, and shortly started to win local talent shows - to the amazement of all parties concerned.

Duke has spent the years since then travelling, as well as developing and perfecting his style - both lyrical and musical - as well as learning recording and production techniques. January 2007 saw the release of a full-length album entitled "Sorry I'm Late." As of June 2008, he will be relocating to his city of origin, citing the fact that "Toronto's where it's all going down, and I wanna be part of this."

Album #2 - tentatively entitled "Tip the Bar" - is scheduled for release early in 2008, along with an EP, "Go Time."
